How to Use Silhouette CAMEO Machines

A Silhouette CAMEO is sort of a large machine that cuts letters and shapes out of cardstock, fabric, leather, vellum, Silhouette vinyl, and many other materials. The setup for this machine is easy; all you have to do is connect it to your computer and your printer and follow the prompts. One of the beauties of the Silhouette CAMEO 4 electronic cutting system is that it uses software instead of cartridges or dies, so staying organized is so much easier.

For most projects, you will need Silhouette tools to remove your material from your CAMEO mat and apply it to your project without compromising the edges of the material. Remember that your Silhouette blade is maybe the most important component of your CAMEO machine, so keep it sharp.

The CAMEO vs. the Portrait

Each machine is an electronic die cutter that works off software but is very different in features and size. The CAMEO system can cut material that is 12" wide by 10' long. The Portrait, however, can only fit 8" wide by 10' long. If you travel a lot, a Portrait is a great option because it is more compact. It is also cheaper. The CAMEO is a better bang for your buck because of all the features. The Portrait doesn't have a dual carriage, an LCD touch screen, an auto-adjusting blade, etc. The CAMEO 4 has tons of upgrades, too. For example, it cuts 3x faster than the CAMEO 3; it has more clearance for cutting thick materials, and several other cool features.
