Types of Sizzix Dies

Sizzix is a popular brand in the crafting world for good reason. They make wonderful solutions for scrapbookers. One of their most popular methods for crating craft art is through die-cutting, and Sizzix dies are maybe the best in the industry.

Framelits

Framelits are nested, layering dies that cut shapes in graduated sizes. They're perfect for creating layered designs or frames. Made of thin metal, Framelits work well with paper and cardstock, allowing crafters to create intricate, multi-layered projects with ease. Above, in the example you can see the layered butterflies, and the final product is stamped. We have lots of Framelits sets with stamps included.

Thinlits

Thinlits are wafer-thin dies designed for intricate and detailed designs. These dies are ideal for creating delicate cuts and fine details in your projects. They work best with thinner materials like paper and light cardstock, producing beautifully detailed cutouts for cards, scrapbook pages, and more. Did you know you can use Thinlits to cut, stencil, and emboss?

Bigz

Bigz dies are thicker and more robust, capable of cutting through multiple layers or tougher materials. These powerhouse dies can handle fabric, felt, thin wood, and multiple layers of paper. They're often used for larger designs or when working with heavier materials, making them versatile for various crafting applications.

ScoreBoards

ScoreBoards are specialty dies that can both cut and score in one pass. They're particularly useful for creating 3D projects, boxes, and cards with fold lines. The ability to create both cut lines and score lines simultaneously saves time and ensures precise folds in your projects.

Movers & Shapers

Movers & Shapers are magnetic dies that offer easy positioning and repositioning. They often come with a magnetic base plate for easy alignment. This feature allows crafters to mix and match different die shapes, creating unique combinations for their projects.

Impresslits

Impresslits are combination dies that both cut and emboss in one pass. They create a cut outline with an embossed design inside, adding an extra dimension to your die-cut shapes. These dies are perfect for creating detailed, textured elements for your crafts.

Retired Die Types

While no longer in production, many crafters still use and collect these retired Sizzix die types:

  • Triplits: Sets of three coordinating dies that work together.
  • On the Edge: Long, thin dies designed to cut decorative edges.
  • Originals: Some of the earliest Sizzix dies, featuring thicker construction and simpler, bold designs.
  • Sizzlits: Small, intricate dies for detailed designs, similar to modern Thinlits but generally smaller in size.
  • Decorative Strip: Long dies designed to create borders or repeating patterns.
  • Frameworks: Dies designed to create dimensional frames or structures for 3D projects or interactive card elements.

Each type of Sizzix die offers unique features and capabilities, allowing crafters to bring their creative visions to life. Whether you're looking for intricate details, bold shapes, or versatile cutting options, there's a Sizzix die to suit your needs. Happy crafting!
