Halloween Craft Projects 2018: Layouts, Cards, Treat Bags, etc.

layout made using simple stories happy halloweenby Richelle Naegle

It’s October and now I feel like I can officially start creating for Halloween, and I love to make spooky and cute crafts. This year I think I got a little carried away with the scrapbook layouts! There are just too many fun Halloween paper collections to choose from this year. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted to get, so I think I got them all, including:

This first scrapbook layout was not created using any of those product lines, I actually went with the Simple Stories Happy Halloween Collection Kit. This is a perfect solution if you just want to make a couple pages (or a bunch of cards). It came with a sheet of SN@P Cards that are easy to add as an embellishment to your scrapbook pages.

This next layout I made is a design you can download for free (check out the October downloads post here). The paper collection I used is called Hocus Pocus, designed by Echo ParkI absolutely love this layout that Aaron designed. I had to make it, and it was so easy with the collection kit!

Halloween Treat Bag Projects

two ghost-themed halloween treat boxesby Richelle Naegle

It’s time to get ready for Halloween, Everybody knows the best thing about Halloween is the treats! At least that’s what my kids tell me. So today, I thought it would be fun to make a few quick and easy Halloween treat bag projects.

Silhouette 3D Open-Sided Halloween Favor Box

For me, the first thing I did was get my Silhouette CAMEO (have you seen the new Pink CAMEO 3?) out and searched through their Silhouette Studio until I found these cute Ghost boxes. They are called 3D Open sided Halloween Favor Box.

I cut them out out at 11″ tall, which allowed me to cut two boxes from one 12″ x 12″ sheet of patterned cardstock. The banner spells “Boo”, but instead of O’s, I substituted googly eyes. I think that modification turned out great

October 2017 Free SVG Designs: Halloween Emoji SVG’s, Halloween T-Shirt SVG’s

Wow, it’s not quite October and we already have snow on the mountains around the CraftDirect corporate offices! We are not ready for this yet. It’s time for Halloween projects, not hot cocoa and a blanket. We’re we excited because we have lots of free SVG designs that you are going to love. Aaron (our designer) was really busy this month. Nobody told him to work so hard, he just got carried away because he loves Halloween! This month, we have:

  • (1) emoji series
  • (4) Mason jar wrap designs
  • (1) card/all-purpose design
  • (2) t-shirt designs

Make these designs come to life by cutting your project material with an electronic die-cutter. The most popular machines we carry are the CAMEO 3 (have you seen the Pink CAMEO 3?) and the Explore Air 2. All you have to do is upload the free SVG design to your machine and then let it do all the hard work. Let’s get to the designs:

These are the Halloween Mason Jar Wraps. For this project, we recommend Cricut vinyl or Silhouette vinyl.

The design on the left is the Fly with Big Girls T-Shirt and the child’s design on the right is the Spooky Kids T-Shirt. For material, you are going to need some Cricut Iron-on or if you prefer, Silhouette heat transfer. You can learn how to use this material with our Cricut Iron-on tutorial.

And last, but not least, check out our Jack-O-Lantern Icon – October 2016 from last year, which had over 2,000 downloads!

Mini Halloween Things Projects – Tim Holtz 2017

cards made with Mini Halloween Things Thinlits diesby Richelle Naegle

I’m sure you have seen my posts for the New Tim Holtz Halloween Dies. 2017 Sizzix Halloween Dies is a great year for Halloween Dies!! Oh my these are all so amazing!  Okay so I finally got my hands on a couple of them, because they are literally flying off the shelves. I would highly recommend pre-ordering them if you want them, they seem to go out of stock as soon as they arrive.

The reason I decided to make Mini Halloween Things projects is I think this may be my favorite die set from 2017, I love the Mini Halloween Things Thinlits. They are perfect for making fun little cards to go with treats, or create quick tags, or add an embellishment to a photo frame. If you are like me and you enjoy giving away treats to friends around Halloween, you can add a quick note with a fun die-cut piece using this die set. and want to add a cute little note to them these would make a perfect embellishment to a gift tag. Tim Holtz Halloween Release & Project

completed tim holtz crazy dog halloween cardby Richelle Naegle

With October 31st still a few months away, Tim Holtz has been working hard on new designs. The new Tim Holtz Halloween release has inspired me to craft, the only problem is his new line isn’t quite in stock yet. I had to get creative and use some of my favorite dies that I already have. The Tim Holtz Crazy Dogs and Crazy Cats are among the funnest designs in his entire portfolio, and when you combine them with the Crazy Things, you can really dress the dogs and cats up to match the occasion at hand.

The overall size of this card is 3″ x 3″. I used the Mini Crazy Cats & Dogs dies & stamps bundle to make the dog, and then I used the Crazy Things die and stamps bundle for the witch’s hat and broom. The stamps work very well with these dies because they make it so easy to have all the fun details of the the dog without having to draw them on. Heidi Swapp Lightbox Project Ideas

by Richelle Naeglehappy-halloween-lighbox

Have you seen the fun, new Heidi Swapp Lightbox? It offers an easy way to create a marquee that matches the theme of the occasion at hand, like holidays, birthdays, or just for fun! There are background images, letters (in a variety of colors) so you can write what ever you want, phases and even fun icons. The white Lightbox comes with a cord, so you don’t have run it off batteries. You do have the option to use batteries if you prefer, though.

I made two different designs to demonstrate how simple and yet delightful this really is. I was nervous about not having enough of the right pink letter Lightbox inserts to spell out Happy Halloween. I only used one package and it did the trick. I also used the nifty Holiday-themed Lightbox Icons. By my count, there are at least two icons for each major holiday!lightbox1

For the second example, I went with a Valentine’s day theme. Really, you can do this one any time of year. You don’t need a reason to be romantic. Like I mentioned with the Halloween project, the Holiday icons allowed me two options: cupid and a heart. I couldn’t choose between them and why not both?

So regardless of the occasion or Holiday you can easily change out this marquee project solution in a mater of minutes. You could even
personalize it for an evening with friends, for example, make it into a sign welcoming guests to your murder mystery party. Really, the possibilities are endless.

Want More Lightbox Products?

Well, then you are in luck! Heidi Swapp is coming out with a new mini Lightbox and a Lightbox Shelf along with a bunch of creative inserts These are coming out about the middle of November so we will have them available soon for pre-order. They will be in stock before you know it! Here is a little sneak peak of the new stuff that is coming out!   new-lightboxes

Above are some samples of new icons that will be available. There will also be new options for alphabet inserts, as well as phrases.

backgroundsLast but not least, this new release includes some awesome options for backgrounds!

Pro tip: I had a hard time putting the letters over the top of the background, but found it was super easy to add the background behind the letters. There is plenty of room for both, so you will just have to figure out what works best for you.

We carry lots of options for Heidi Swapp decorating projects, including Heidi Swapp Letterboard, Marquee Love. Happy creating!
