Mother’s Day 2017 Craft Project Ideas

finished mother's day fox greeting cardby Richelle Naegle
Today I’m going to cover a few fun cards you can make for your special Mom. Some are super easy and some are more involved. Hopefully you have as much fun with your Mother’s Day 2017 craft project ideas as I did.

Let’s start with the intricate project first. This is a fun rectangular pop out card and I made it using The Cricut Explore Air 2 and one of our free SVG files. In case you don’t know, our in-house artist Aaron Meyers designs these and he creates a few new ones every month, available for free download. Also, there is an exclusive download every month, only available on the confirmation page after you make a purchase. Be sure to check back every month to see what’s new.

This is called Mom Fox Hug Card and if you scroll to the bottom of this post you will see a link that will take you to the .svg file so you can download it. In order to see the link, you need to be reading the actual post and not the summary in the blog feed. I used one of Lori Whitlock’s designs from the Silhouette Studio Library for the background of the card.

Mother’s Day Cards

Here are the other two cards I made. My goal was to keep it easy because that other one was a decent amount of work. Whenever I want to simplify things, I go with a Simple Stories paper collection.completed mother's day card ideas

These two cards are both from the Mom Collection Kit. I cut them out using my favorite American Crafts paper trimmer from American Crafts and then I attached them to a matching background (the kits make it easy; all the pages coordinate with the theme and stickers). Then use a folded sheet of paper to create your card base and use your favorite adhesive to attach everything together. I made these cards with the leftover material from my layout project:

Cricut Mother’s Day Layout

finished mother's day scrapbook layout ideaTo complete this layout, I used quite a few Cricut cartridges. If you don’t have all these, you can probably find suitable substitute images from the cartridges that you already own. For example, the flowers can be replaced. There are so many cartridges with flower designs.

For the base of the page, I used the Edge to Edge Cricut cartridge. I just made it as large as it would go, so it’s about 11.5″ x 11.5″. If you wanted to, you could mount it on a 12″ x 12″ sheet of paper for a perfect fit in your scrapbook or just leave it with a scalloped edge.

I used some pink ribbon and weaved it through the holes. Then tied it in a bow at the top. The flowers are from Nifty Fifties Cricut cartridge, except the long flower is from Stretch Your Imagination. You’re a Great Mom is from the Floral Embellished Cricut cartridge.

Happy Mother’s day and happy creating!

Simple Stories Sports Scrapbook Collection Kits

by Richelle Naegle

The new Simple Stories sports collection kits are perfect if you are trying to create a scrapbook layout for your favorite little athlete! Simple Stories is well known for offering scrapbookers the best kinds of solutions. There is a collection kit for just about every sport and they make it super easy to throw together quick projects. I used different colors of Premium Cardstock by Core’dinations to add photo boards and an occasional die cut, but for the most part, everything (the stickers and cardstock) came from the collection kits. A lot of their new releases are Sports themed paper packs. You can find all the collection kits on our Simple Stories paper page.

The above image is a design made from the Baseball Collection Kit. Each set comes with 6 sheets of patterned cardstock. Obviously, I only used 2 of them. There are 4 more 12″ x 12″ pages that can be made, or you can cut them up to make photo pockets and other additions. Continue reading “Simple Stories Sports Scrapbook Collection Kits” »

Simple Stories Scrapbooking Projects

by Richelle Naegle

Sometimes simple is better! Especially when you have a lot of scrapbook pages to make because you are a couple years behind on your scrapbook albums, like I am. The Simple Stories collection kits are perfect for making quick and fun scrapbook layouts. These kits include stickers, cardstock elements, and some of them even have journaling cards, and element sheets. With all these matching components it makes album work super easy and quick! So grab one or a few of your favorite scrapbook kits and get started today. You can also choose from our awesome selection of Simple Stories paper. Just so you know, most of the Simple Stories kits are very limited in supply. Once they are gone, we may not be able to get more. So if you see one you love, you better grab it today.

For all of these layouts I made, the kits provided all the material. I used some solid printed material for the photo backdrops and the This to that adhesive value pack. I really like the adhesive runners in this value pack. It holds really well and also allows me wiggle room if I don’t place it perfectly the first time, I can easily pull it up and re-place it without damaging my page.

snow-page-layoutsToday I stared out with the fun Snow Patrol Collection Kit. This kit is perfect for your winter-themed scrapbook pages. It’s full of great colors that are bright and cheery but also represent the winter months very well. The Simple Stories kits work really well together you get 4 double sided sheets of paper and stickers, and element sheets so you can easily cut out extra embellishments. I love the snowman so much and there was only one, so I used a some small-tipped green CGull scissors and cut one out from one of the element sheets. I love how this layout came together quickly and easily!

Next I used the Carpe Diem Collection Kit. This kit matches with the Carpe Diem planners collection but they do not have to be used together. I created this fun scrapbook layout that I am going to use for some of those random pictures that have no unifying them. Sometimes those random moments are the best memories.aloha-layout

This next layout was created using the You Are Here! Collection Kit. This layout is perfect for those fun photos of your tropical vacation or if you have a beach-themed party! The problem I had with this kit is I really wanted to make more pages, so if you had a big vacation and you’re using this kit, I would highly recommend grabbing two of them.

Finally we have a fun birthday layout from the Let’s Party Collection Kit. This kit is so much fun with its bright colors and fun designs you can make some fun scrapbook layouts!

That’s it. I created all of these layouts in about an hour. I know some of you have created fun layout with these kits, so share them with me on our Facebook or Instagram pages! Be sure to hashtag #craftdirect so I can see what you have created. I can’t wait to enjoy all the fun pages you have designed.

Happy creating!
