Halloween Craft Projects 2018: Layouts, Cards, Treat Bags, etc.

layout made using simple stories happy halloweenby Richelle Naegle

It’s October and now I feel like I can officially start creating for Halloween, and I love to make spooky and cute crafts. This year I think I got a little carried away with the scrapbook layouts! There are just too many fun Halloween paper collections to choose from this year. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted to get, so I think I got them all, including:

This first scrapbook layout was not created using any of those product lines, I actually went with the Simple Stories Happy Halloween Collection Kit. This is a perfect solution if you just want to make a couple pages (or a bunch of cards). It came with a sheet of SN@P Cards that are easy to add as an embellishment to your scrapbook pages.

This next layout I made is a design you can download for free (check out the October downloads post here). The paper collection I used is called Hocus Pocus, designed by Echo ParkI absolutely love this layout that Aaron designed. I had to make it, and it was so easy with the collection kit!

New Simple Stories Winter 2018 Collection Kits

by Richelle Naegle

Last month was the CHA 2018 show (which is now called Creativation), and this year there are a lot of great new products coming out! I can’t wait for you see them all. Simple Stories is one of my favorite paper lines, and I love the new Carpe Diem planners that are coming out in May. You should follow up on that later!

The first collection you are going to want to check out is the Always & Forever! This is the perfect paper collection for a wedding; it features black and white floral prints as well as a great selection of embellishments that will perfectly enhance your layouts.

This next set gives you the opportunity to scrapbook all about yourself. The I am. . . collection was designed for yours truly! If you are like me, you spend a lot of time spending your scrapbooking time on projects about your kids. We are so busy with all the activities they do, and the only time you show up in the scrapbook is when someone else takes the camera at a family vacation or event, and then you’re in the picture for once.

Above is a scrapbook layout I quickly created using I am… Now, all I need are a couple pictures of me. This collection gives you the chance to add more of you to your projects!

Next we have Simple Stories Bliss, which is filled with fun pastel colors like purple, pink and blue, and green, with lots of butterflies and flowers. This collection is perfect for scrapbooking all your spring and even Easter projects. If you prefer more traditional Easter pages, check out the Happy Easter set from Simple Stories, or Welcome Spring! Both of these collections come with six 12″ x 12″ double-sided sheets and a selection of stickers.

This next collection is great for anyone who loves to craft, as well as teenage girls. Crafty Girl features bright colors and fun patterns. With this collection, I created a super simple and fun card that any anyone would love.

Mama Llama is a fun llama-themed paper stack that would be great for making your Mother’s day cards and scrapbook pages with. Pick up this kit now because our Mother’s day scrapbook kits always seem to sell out quickly.

Last, but definitely not the least of these kits is Travel Notes. It will make crafting your family road trip or vacation super easy. I wanted to make something different from this paper collection, so I made a traveler scrapbook. The finished size of this book is 8″ x 8″.

Below is the first page, and I used some of the element sheets to cut out little images, like the cameras, heart, and the phrase Enjoy every Moment. I also added the fun pocket to hold tickets and other little keepsakes.

On the second page (below), I added some photo spots, because what good is it without some fun pictures from your trip? This collection kit has a lot of fun embellishments that you can use to make this little scrapbook come to life.

The third page of this travel scrapbook is only made up of three sheets of paper, so you will still have a lot of extra scraps to use in other projects.

Here is the back page, and to bind this book together, I stapled the edge. You could also poke little holes in the side and string some ribbon or jute through.

This is the complete NEW Simple Stories Winter 2018 collections that are coming out this month (Feb 2018). There are a bunch more that are coming in April so check back to see those fun collections as well.

Happy Creating

Mother’s Day 2017 Craft Project Ideas

finished mother's day fox greeting cardby Richelle Naegle
Today I’m going to cover a few fun cards you can make for your special Mom. Some are super easy and some are more involved. Hopefully you have as much fun with your Mother’s Day 2017 craft project ideas as I did.

Let’s start with the intricate project first. This is a fun rectangular pop out card and I made it using The Cricut Explore Air 2 and one of our free SVG files. In case you don’t know, our in-house artist Aaron Meyers designs these and he creates a few new ones every month, available for free download. Also, there is an exclusive download every month, only available on the confirmation page after you make a purchase. Be sure to check back every month to see what’s new.

This is called Mom Fox Hug Card and if you scroll to the bottom of this post you will see a link that will take you to the .svg file so you can download it. In order to see the link, you need to be reading the actual post and not the summary in the blog feed. I used one of Lori Whitlock’s designs from the Silhouette Studio Library for the background of the card.

Mother’s Day Cards

Here are the other two cards I made. My goal was to keep it easy because that other one was a decent amount of work. Whenever I want to simplify things, I go with a Simple Stories paper collection.completed mother's day card ideas

These two cards are both from the Mom Collection Kit. I cut them out using my favorite American Crafts paper trimmer from American Crafts and then I attached them to a matching background (the kits make it easy; all the pages coordinate with the theme and stickers). Then use a folded sheet of paper to create your card base and use your favorite adhesive to attach everything together. I made these cards with the leftover material from my layout project:

Cricut Mother’s Day Layout

finished mother's day scrapbook layout ideaTo complete this layout, I used quite a few Cricut cartridges. If you don’t have all these, you can probably find suitable substitute images from the cartridges that you already own. For example, the flowers can be replaced. There are so many cartridges with flower designs.

For the base of the page, I used the Edge to Edge Cricut cartridge. I just made it as large as it would go, so it’s about 11.5″ x 11.5″. If you wanted to, you could mount it on a 12″ x 12″ sheet of paper for a perfect fit in your scrapbook or just leave it with a scalloped edge.

I used some pink ribbon and weaved it through the holes. Then tied it in a bow at the top. The flowers are from Nifty Fifties Cricut cartridge, except the long flower is from Stretch Your Imagination. You’re a Great Mom is from the Floral Embellished Cricut cartridge.

Happy Mother’s day and happy creating!

Simple Stories Sports Scrapbook Collection Kits

by Richelle Naegle

The new Simple Stories sports collection kits are perfect if you are trying to create a scrapbook layout for your favorite little athlete! Simple Stories is well known for offering scrapbookers the best kinds of solutions. There is a collection kit for just about every sport and they make it super easy to throw together quick projects. I used different colors of Premium Cardstock by Core’dinations to add photo boards and an occasional die cut, but for the most part, everything (the stickers and cardstock) came from the collection kits. A lot of their new releases are Sports themed paper packs. You can find all the collection kits on our Simple Stories paper page.

The above image is a design made from the Baseball Collection Kit. Each set comes with 6 sheets of patterned cardstock. Obviously, I only used 2 of them. There are 4 more 12″ x 12″ pages that can be made, or you can cut them up to make photo pockets and other additions. Continue reading “Simple Stories Sports Scrapbook Collection Kits” »
