Various Greeting Cards

flower shoppe card from cricutFun Flower Card

This fun card was created using the Anna Griffin Flower Bramble cutting and embossing folder for the background, and the Flower Shoppe Cricut cartridge for the flowers.

The overall size of the card is 5 x 7 inches so that it fits the cut and emboss cut.  Each of the flowers were cut out at 2 inches for the largest petals and 1 inch for the smallest in 0.25” increments.

I used a little bit of water on each of the flower petals and then crumbled them up to give them a little more dimension and texture.

flower shoppe card from cricut with rose embellishmentCard for Any Occasion

The flower was cut out at 3” for the largest petal and decreased in size by 0.25” and the smallest petal is 1.5”.

The center was cut out at 2” and I used a Megan Elizabeth Sparkle Lightz in the center of the flower.

To create the background of the card I inked up an embossing folder and then embossed a white sheet of paper. Makes it look like a very custom paper, but it is super easy to create.

For this super easy card I used the Extreme Fonts cartridge and Flower Shoppe cartridge. The size of this card is  4″ x 6″, and the thanks is cut out at 0.75″ with the shadow feature using the Junior font from this cartridge.

The flower was cut out from 1.5″ for the smallest petals and 2.5″ for the outer petals. The center was cut out at 1″ and then used a Girls Best Friend Sparkle Light in the center.

On the edges of the yellow flowers I used a brown ink to give them more of a sunflower look.

All Things Grow with Love

yellow flower card with flower shoppe cricutFor this beautiful card I used the Flower Shoppe cartridge and Accent Essentials, the overall size of the card is 6 x 6 the background scallop was cut out at 5″ and the flower was cut out at 2.5″.  All the flower petals were distressed with Tim Holtz distress ink. The leaves were cut out at 2.5″ and then I crumpled them up and distress them the Tim Holtz distress ink. The center of the flower is just a simple pearl bead.

The circle is 2″ you can use any cartridge that has a circle on it, and distressed with the Tim Holtz tea stain as well and then stamped with black ink.

The background paper is the Antique paper from Bazzill, I love this paper, it’s very thin but it’s so nice to work with. Then tied it with some orange ribbon and some raffia. Distressed the edges with the tea stain and rounded the corners with the We R Memory Keepers corner rounder (1/2″).

Kate’s ABC Cricut Cartridge Ideas

by Richelle Naegle

I made a layout and a card with the Kate’s ABCs Cricut cartridge and I am really happy about the finished products. Whether you are celebrating a holiday, or everyday living, you can come up with nice layouts and greeting cards for your scrapbook album memories with this popular Cricut cartridge.

You Are My Sunshine Layout

kate's abcs layout made with cricutI picture this being used as a summer time layout, but it could be utilized for a baby birth, or any occasion with children (or maybe you have a beekeeper in your life). The bees are cut out at 3 inches and the flowers at 5 inches. The clouds are from Create a Critter at 2 inches and then each one has been embossed and then lightly rubbed with blue ink so that the raised part of the paper stands out.

The photo frames on the right are all for a 3 x 3 inch photo and the large one on the left is for a 4 x 6 inch photo.

This layout is a super easy and quick layout that’s perfect for your summer photos. I love the contrast in colors and patterns on this layout. Let me know what variations you can come up with and share them here.

St. Patrick’s Day Card

kate's abc cartridge st. patty's day cardHere is how to make this super easy St. Patrick’s Day card:

The overall size of the card is 5 x 5 inches and I used Create a Critter for the horse shoe cut out at 2 inches. I cut the letters cut out at 2 inches (from the Kate’s ABC cartridge) as well. Designer’s Calendar for the shamrock cut out at 1.5 inches and covered the shamrock in green Ranger stickles.

Please share your creations with us here at CraftDirect. With St. Patty’s day right around the corner, this design idea gives you ample time to get your party invitations sent out for the occasion. Cricut Quilted Christmas Ideas

by Richelle Naeglea quilted christmas layout santa

Wow! Christmas is only 2 days away. I am so excited!  I have this post crafted just for the occasion. A Quilted Christmas Cricut cartridge offers all kinds of wonderful designs to play with this holiday season. I made a layout for my scrapbook and a card to share with you today.

Christmas Layout

For this super easy layout, I used A Quilted Christmas cartridge to cut out the Santa (at 5 inches) and used photo sheet protectors for the Multi-pack, which is quality We R Memory Keepers paper Yuletide paper kit.

You wouldn’t need to do the 4 x 6 sheets if you just have pictures to put into them. Just slip your pictures in, or try putting the ribbon on them and then slide them into place. Cricut makes this project easy.

If you’re like me, then you have a ton of Christmas photos. This year I’m going to use this system to scrapbook all of my Christmas photos. I know it will make it so much easier and faster, and I’ll still get the benefit of a fun handmade scrapbook made by yours truly. I will post pictures next year, when I get to them 😉

For the border around the Santa square I used the Sew Easy and just the basic piercer that comes with the handle to make my little sewing element. It made for an easy process.

Nativity Card

nativity card made with A Quilted ChristmasIf you’re like me, then you make a bunch of Christmas cards in wide variety. Well, here is an easy solution to make beautiful Christmas cards. Using the A Quilted Christmas cartridge you can cut these cards out with just two simple cuts.

For this nativity card I used my Cricut machine and made the cut at 5 inches. Cutting the image at 5 inches will allow you to cut two cards on each 12″ x 12″ sheet.

With this process you can get a lot done in quick fashion, which is an extra valuable convenience during the busy Christmas season.

If you have any Cricut Quilted Christmas ideas to share this holiday, please contact us about showcasing your creations. Inspire others with your talent! Don’t hide your candle under a bushel. Save on Cricut cartridges with CraftDirect.com.

Martha Stewart Cake Art Projects

by Richelle Naegle

There are actually two cartridges to cover from the Martha Stewart Cake Art line from Cricut. I’ve been able to do a lot more with the Seasonal Cake Art cartridge so if you have completed projects with the Martha Stewart Elegant Cake Art, then please feel free to share your creations. With Christmas just around the corner these two cartridges will make great gifts for the crafter in your life.

Cricut Martha Stewart Seasonal Cake Art

Happy Mother’s Day

seasonal art cartridge mother's day cardFor this fun Mother’s Day card we used the Flower Shoppe Cricut cartridge for the flower. The largest flower petals were cut out from Cricut cardstock at 3 inches and then decreased in size by 0.25 inches to 1.5 inches. The center was cut out at 2 inches and I used a Megan Elizabeth Sparkle Lightz for the center of the flower.

“Happy Mother’s Day” is from the Martha Stewart Seasonal Cake Art cartridge at 1.5 inches. The overall size of the card is 5×7 inches, but with the flower being so large and bulky it won’t fit in an envelope. This is a card that you definitely want to be able to hand deliver.

mother's day card from cricut martha stewartOne wasn’t enough, so I came up with another Mother’s Day card. The one above is probably more geared towards a grandmother, whereas this one to the left is a little “louder” and maybe for a younger Mother. Each card definitely has its own personality.

I cut out the borders at 1 inch and “Happy Mother’s Day” cut out at 1 inch as well.

The overall size of this card is 4 x 6 and was super easy and quick card to make. I love the way Cricut machines make these projects so quick and convenient.

This is such a fun cartridge to make quick cards, scrapbook layouts or even home decor and of course cut out fondant if you have a Cricut Cake Machine.

Various Seasonal Cake Art Cards

This first one was cut out at 6″ for just the two layers. I did use the gypsy to weld the back image together to make a fun shape card, and stamped Easter Joy. Super easy and quick card.

ester bunny card made with martha stewart cricutThis card is a 4 x 6 card. the grass is cut out at 2″ and the chick with her egg is 2″ as well. Happy Easter is 1.5 inches. The phrases on this cartridge is great, I didn’t have a problem with it being to thin and ripping coming off the mat. And it has Happy Easter in a couple different designs.

easter card from martha stewart seasonal cakeThis card I made as a Mother’s Day card. The overall size of this card is 4 x 5.5″ ( not a standard size).  The flower bouquet was cut out at 5″. I did cut each of the images out twice so that I could have green stems and a red ribbon and pink and purple flowers. Inside each of the flowers is a Girls Best Friend Sparkle Light.

martha stewart elegant cake cartridge happy halloweenAnother Halloween card! I know, I’ve posted a lot of these lately, but some are from years past, so don’t think I’m obsessed or anything. I really love the Martha Stewart Elegant Cake cartridge.

The overall size of the card is 4” x 6”. The fence was cut out at 2.5” (this does make it longer then than 6”) but I just trimmed it down to fit the size.

I was more looking for the height. The pumpkins are just starburst (cut out at 1.25”) that when you add some cute faces and a little ribbon for stems and those starbursts look like fun pumpkins!

Please share your creations because this is the only one I’ve made with this awesome cartridge. Show me what you came up with! Make the most out of your Cricut cartridges and save with CraftDirect. You can never have too many fresh Cricut blades and replacement Cricut cutting mats.

Cricut Monster Bash Ideas

by Richelle Naegle
monster bash cricut cartridge - halloween layout
One of the more fun cartridges is the Monster Bash cartridge. Maybe it’s just cause I associate it with Halloween, which is such a fun holiday, but I love this Cricut layout I was able to come up with, and I’m excited to see what I can come up with in the future (not to mention I’d love to see what you come up with). We have an excellent collection of Cricut Halloween cartridges. Check them out!.

Halloween Layout

Alright, so you can probably reverse engineer everything I did just by looking at it, but here are the details on this layout I made for my scrapbook:

This cartridge has some beautiful spider webs on it that, when you cut them out at the full mat size (approx. 11 inches), they can transform a plain colored sheet of paper into a custom beautiful layout. Without a lot of work or spending a lot of money on a pre-cut cardstock sheet, you can make the design a lot more dynamic and I think you will really like the results.

For this layout I used my Cricut machine cut the spider web out at 11 inches and the Halloween at 3 inches (note the Halloween is two separate image cuts) and then the 3.5 x 3.5 inches squares and one 5 x 7 inches square for all the fun Halloween pictures I’m sure to have. I love using ribbon, but what kind of embellishments do you prefer? Rhinestone gems didn’t seem very Halloween-ish to me.

Save on Cricut cartridges and please share your own creations with us and demonstrate how to use the Cricut Monster Bash. Also, it’s never a bad idea to have fresh replacements on hand, so save on Cricut cutting mats.

Cricut Outdoor Man Cartridge Ideas

by Richelle Naegle

This cartridge is great for people who love the outdoors, whether male or female. As you can see, the first project I highlight here as I go over my Cricut Outdoor Man cartridge ideas is a hunting card for a woman. This cartridge is perfect for rugged types. Enjoy!

Hunting Buddies Card

hunting buddies card made with outdoor man cartridgeThis card I made with my sister-in-law in mind. I wouldn’t recommend a pink card for a male hunter. She loves to hunt everything and she loves pink.  Her hunting bow is even pink (I don’t think her gun is but if she could have one, I’m sure she would). It’s easy to see why this is one of the most popular Cricut cartridges.

This card is 5 x 7 inches and the “girl” is cut out from the Outdoor Man cartridge at 5 inches.

I just wanted a silhouette, so I cut out the detailed image in black, I also cut it out in pink, so that I could have the pink boots, and then cut out the hat and gun stock in the pink as well.

The cardstock dog was cut out at 2 inches and Hunting Buddies at 1.5 inches. Just one layer of that one as well.

I love how it turned out, I think sister-in-law will as well.

Dad & Me Layout

layout made with outdoor man cartridgeI really love this Outdoor Man cartridge for layouts, so if you’re a scrapbooker and you or your family enjoy the outdoors you will love this cartridge.

You could also make this just as easily for a girl with this layout by adding some pink or her favorite color, because if you are like me, then you loved the outdoors. I fished with my Dad all the time.

This 12 x 12 layout was super easy, it has a spot for a 5 x 7 photo. The Dad and me is cut at 2 inches. The fish were cut out at 4 inches, the pole at 5, and the bobber at 2 inches (there are 3 different bobbers, but I only used the 1 of them).

This was a really fun layout for me. I hope you enjoy.

What a Catch

what a catch card made with cricut outdoor manThe Outdoor Man cartridge has so many fun phrases sayings on it. Picking one to make is the hardest part of the project.

The overall size of the card is 4 x 6 inches and the oval is cut out at 4 inches from the Father’s Day Cartridge. You can use any cartridge that you have that has an oval on it (there are a lot of them).

“What a catch” is cut out at 2.75 inches. Add a little ribbon and you’re done.

That’s it! Easy and straightforward.

Happy Campers Card

happy campers card made with cricut outdoor man cartridgeAs you can see, I’m having a pretty good time with this fun cartridge. If you love the outdoors (or maybe the the men in your life do) then your Cricut cartridge selection is not complete without it.

The overall size of this card is 4 x 6 inches.

The trees are cut out at 5 inches and the tent at 2. I used pop dots on the tent so it stands out more from the card. Layers are so easy to create with Cricut machines.

Happy Campers was cut out at 1.25 inches. Make sure you have your machine on slow when cutting out the words this small. Some of the letters have very skinny parts and going too fast will inevitably create tears.

Boys Will Be Boys Layout

Such an awesome layout would not be possible without the Cricut Outdoor Man cartridge. I had this paper that I really loved and thought it worked so well for an outdoor layout, but no matter what I did it seemed too “busy”. So I tore it in half and paired it with a solid red sheet, which I feel like adequately simplified the design while adding some dimension to the page.boys will be boys layout made with cricut outdoor man cartridgeNow for the details…the four squares going down each of the sides are 2.5 inches for the black squares and 2.25 inches for the green squares. Then each of the little cut outs are as follows:

  • 4 Wheeler: 1.25″
  • Tent: 1.25″
  • Lantern: 2″
  • Hiking Boots: 1.25″
  • Walkie-talkies: 2″
  • Binoculars: 1.5″ Using the real dial size
  • Compass: 2″
  • Fire: 2″
  • And the “boys will be boys”: 2″

There are three 4 x 6 photo spots and one 5 x 7.

Even though this layout took some time because of all the little images, it is relatively easy to do.

Please share with us your own Cricut Outdoor Man ideas and as always save on your most desired Cricut supplies with CraftDirect.com. In addition to that, you can check out other awesome brands, like this Crate Paper cardstock.

Cricut Paper Dolls Teen Scene Projects

by Richelle Naegle

Probably one of the most under-appreciated cartridges in the Cricut lineup, the Paper Dolls Teen Scene cartridge is among my personal favorites. So many cute and fun projects can be made from this one cartridge, so I will share a few of my own:

Paper Doll Teen Scene Cards

grad boy card made with teen sceneGraduation cards

To give you an idea of what kind of direction to take, I made a card for a boy and a girl. Both were made in part with the Paper dolls Teen Scene cartridge and both of the teens were cut out at 4 inches. The overall size of the cards is 5 x 5 inches.

The “Happy Graduation” is from the Happy Graduation cartridge at 1.5 inches. This one may be difficult to find on the web, so you might have to make do with another Cricut cartridge. Now that I think of it, you will probably want to include something like “Class of ’14”. Making your cards with quality cardstock, will ensure a better final result.graduation card for girl with teen scene cartridge

I went with sort of gender-specific colors, but keep in mind it would be a great idea to choose the school colors of the teen in question.

And the “You Did It” is from the Cake Basics cartridge, (that comes with the Cake Machines) at 4 inches.

Graduation is an important part of each teen’s development so help them commemorate it with a beautiful card that they can have as a keepsake forever.

This card was made using Paper doll Teen Scene and Create a Critter cartridge. The overall size of the card is 4 x 6 inches

The Boy and all his layers are cut out at 5.5 inches and the “Happy Birthday” is from Create a Critter at 1.5 inches.

This is a great cartridge for making all kinds of teen cards and layouts, as you can see.

just thinking of you card made from paper doll teen sceneThinking of You Card

This card is super easy and quick to make, for one of those days when you need a quick card to cheer up a friend or loved one in a moment of need.

The card is 4 x 6 inches and made using the Paper Dolls Teen Scene Cartridge.

The girl is cut out at 5.5 inches.

With the messaging on this one, I made it easy on myself by simply stamping it on there rather than using a cartridge to create it.

Let me know what you come up with.

Paper Doll Teen Scene Layouts

Cards aren’t all I made. For more inspiration using the Paper Dolls Teen Scene cartridge, this 12 x 12 layout is perfect for all those cute noisy girls that come to your house and stay up all night giggling! This is the perfect layout for your daughter’s scrapbook.

The girls are cut out at 4.5 inches two of them at 5 inches and one at 5.5 inches.

“Slumber Party” is cut out from Once Upon a Princess at 3.5 inches.

I also used a 4 x 6 photo spot and then a 4 x 2 journal spot.

This layout is perfect for scrapbooking about a birthday party where there was a sleepover, or a family reunion with cousins, etc.

A Night to Remember Prom Layout

For this cute 12 x 12 layout, we used the Paper Doll Teen Scene cartridge.

A night to remember is cut out at 1.5 inches from Tie the Knot cartridge and used the gypsy to weld the letters together.

The photo frame is cut out at 5.25 x 7.25 inches for a 5 x 7 photo.

The little gems on the edges and the necklace are the Uptown Girl Sparkle Lightz.

Cricut A Frightful Affair Projects

by Richelle NaegleRIP cat card made with Cricut a frightful affair

Today is Friday the 13th, so what better way to celebrate than by sharing my projects made with the Cricut A Frightful Affair cartridge? Invite your friends over for scary movie night, and make it official with a themed invitation using this spooky Cricut cartridge.

RIP Card

Well this one is a little morose, but I made this card with a focus on the background paper. I think it turned out awesome. This is made from We R Memory Keepers paper, the Black Widow collection.

The overall size of the card is 5 x 6 inches (not a standard size) and the RIP cat was cut out at 3.5 inches, including the headstone, the two cats, and the moon. The bats are cut out using A Frightful Affair, the two smaller ones are 1 inch and the larger one is 1.5 inches.cricut card scare up some fun made with a frightful affair

Scare Up Some Fun Card

Halloween may not be for another 10 months, but I find myself planning for it year-round. I love the fall time with all the beautiful colors, and I really like scarecrows even though some of them creep me out.

The overall size of this is card is a standard 4 x 6 inches or the A2 Card. The scarecrow is cut out  with Cricut A Frightful Affair at 5 inches. Then tied with a little bit of ribbon, ( to make him less creepy)

The paper is from DCWV’s Midnight Spell collection.

Smile You Trickster Card

He almost looks like the Hamburglar. I used A Frightful Affair and cut the Burglar out at 3 inches. The overall size of the card is 5 x 5 inches and the white border is 4.5 x 4.5 inches. Finally, the black square is 4 x 3.5 inches. This one is pretty straightforward so I will leave it a that.

smile you trickster halloween cardMonster Mash Card with Cricut A Frightful Affair

Monster mash card made with cricut a frightful affairDo you have a Halloween party? If you do this is the layout for you! This Cricut layout was cut out using A Frightful Affair Cartridge. All of the Characters (the mummy, Elvira, Frankenstien, the Skeleton and the Zombie) are cut out at 5 inches. Tip: if you’re cutting out multiple images from this cartridge it’s really easy to do them all out at the same time, since most of them are the same colors (black, white, and red).

The fence was cut out at 3.75 inches so that it fit across the whole 12 x 12 sheet, on a grey sheet of Cor’dination’s paper, which I then sanded to give it the old look.

“Monster” was cut out at 1.25 inches. It’s one of the fun phrases on this cartridge. “Mash” was cut out using the font on this cartridge that looks like a knife has sliced though it (gorey) at 1.75 inches.

The paper is also from the We R Memory Keepers from the Black Widow collection. What do you think? Would you put this layout in your scrapbook?

Happy Halloween Home Decor

goth girl home decor made with a frightful affair cricut cartridgeFor this Halloween Wall Hanging we used A Frightful Affair and Flower Shoppe cartridge.  We got a a 12 x 12 picture frame and framed this fun layout.

The “Happy Halloween” is cut out at 4 inches from A Frightful Affair and the three flowers are cut out from Flower Shoppe at 4 inches (the big one) and 3 inches (the two smaller ones), using the heart flower.

The self-adhesive crystals are from gems. I love these, they make it so easy to add some beautiful decorative bling to any project.

And once again, the paper is from We R Memory Keepers Black Widow paper collection.

Hopefully none of this was too spooky for you and you will get a good night’s sleep. Remember to share with us your Cricut A Frightful Affair projects and ideas so that we can share them with others on our blog and inspire. Save on the best Cricut cartridges.

Happy creating!

Cricut Plantin Schoolbook Projects

by Richelle Naeglecricut plantin schoolbook card design

If you are looking for inspiration for Cricut Plantin Schoolbook projects, then you have come to the right place. Among all my Cricut creations, this is one of my favorites:

First Day of School Layout

For this very simple quick Cricut layout we only need the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge and the preferred Cricut machine.

“First day of school” was cut out with the Roly Poly font feature. I chose to go with 1.5 inches while the apples were cut out using the roly poly feature at 3 inches. I love working with Cricut paper.

In this case, the layout was created using We R Memory Keepers paper, more specifically the 12 x 12, Three-Ring Photo Sleeve configured to hold three 4 x 6 photos and one 6 x 12. We also have other styles of these fun sheet protectors as well as a pack that has a variety in it.

So you just need to create a 6 x 12 layout or Title page and then you can insert in three  4 x 6 photos (I just put blank white sheets in to show you). This project was super easy and fast with this method for making page layouts. This Cricut scrapbook layout only took me about 30 minutes to complete, start to finish.

More Plantin Schoolbook Ideas

There was a Sweet Tooth Boxes idea I crafted and shared not too long ago. I wouldn’t have been able to complete it with the Cricut Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, so check it out and realize the variety directions you can go with your project.

Please feel free to share with us your ideas and your Plantin Schoolbook projects as well. We can all learn from each other, which includes learning from each others’ mistakes, so if you have a funny craft story where a project went awry, we would love to hear about it. As always, comments and feedback are welcome. You will love our Cricut cartridge prices.
